Obituary of Callie M. Finch

Callie Mae Finch was born on November 21, 1949 to Odellious and Otis Penick, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama. She was raised in the Baptist faith and confessed Christ at an early age. Callie graduated from Western Olin High School in 1968 and later attended Stillman College for the duration of one year. In 1969, Callie met Selwyn R. Finch and the two married in Holy Matrimony on August 29, 1970. From this union was born Selwyn "Dion" and Teia. Callie worked as a phone operator for Cincinnati Bell, a desk clerk at the Baltimore Central YMCA, and as a teacher aide in the Baltimore School Systems. Her best and most joyful job was being a stay-at-home mom to her two children. She often volunteered in her children's classrooms and never missed a field trip. Callie enjoyed music, gardening, cooking, being with her grandchildren, and chatting with her friends. Most will say she always wore a smile. God called her home on Tuesday June 8, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers; Odis Pugh, William Penick, and Charles Penick; and one sister, Maggie Lee Penick-Cadney. She leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Selwyn R. Finch; son, Selwyn "Dion" Finch; daughter, Teia (Douglas) Rocha; and three grandchildren: Matthew Finch, Andrew and Ava Rocha; one sister, Ruby Crawford, of Birmingham, Alabama; three brothers, Otis Penick of Cleveland, Ohio; Thomas (Kay) Penick of Birmingham, Alabama; Henry Penick of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of friends and relatives.
