Obituary of Doris Valentine Royster

Doris Valentine Royster was born on February 14, 1930 to the late Robert E. Carter and Gertrude Wilkins Carter, and was one of nine children from their loving union. She transitioned from this earthly life on March 16, 2021 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined the Olive Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She graduated from Warren County Training School in 1949. After graduation, Doris relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. She worked for a few years at Maryland General Hospital as a nurses aid, after which she was employed by Union Memorial Hospital where she was a telephone operator. Doris retired from Union Memorial Hospital after many years of service. In 1968, she married Johnny Jeff Royster. They loved to travel, often with family and friends being their favorite. Johnny and Doris were faithful members of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church. Both being very active in the church. Doris sang on the sanctuary choir and was also a greeter. In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by six siblings, Edward Carter, Earl Carter, Leola Fossett, Crystabel Guess, Eulalia Branch, and most recently, Murial Zollicoffer. Left to cherish her memory: her daughter, Patricia (Don); son, Reginald; granddaughter, Shawn (James); two great granddaughters, Alyasa and Tajah; two brothers, Freddie and Wayne (Barbara); one sister-in-law, Lorell; a special friend, Al; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
