Obituary of Deacon Jeremiah Riley Davis

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." - Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) With grateful hearts and unwavering faith in God's promises, we celebrate the life of Deacon Jeremiah Riley Davis, who peacefully entered eternal rest on August 1, 2026, after a courageous journey with stomach cancer. Surrounded by love and sustained by his unwavering faith, Jeremiah departed this earthly life with the same quiet strength and dignity that defined his character. Born on February 8, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jeremiah was the beloved son of Essie Mae Davis and Joseph Leroy Davis. He was the seventh of eleven children and remained a proud lifelong resident of Baltimore, where he built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service. Jeremiah became widely respected through his many years of dedicated service with Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services. His work was more than a profession-it was a ministry of compassion. A devoted Deacon, he faithfully served the Lord with humility, kindness, and quiet strength, encouraging countless people through prayer and faithful living. Family and friends will remember his warm smile, gentle spirit, and grateful heart. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones. Known to be a foodie, his favorite crab cake was from Koco's Pub on Harford Road. Even during his illness, he enjoyed their famous Cream of Crab Soup. When asked what he would like to say to all, he replied, "I'm thankful for my journey." Jeremiah leaves behind a legacy of faith and love. He is survived by his seven siblings: Annette Davis, Emma Patterson, Kathleen Davis, Janice Russell, David Davis, Thomas Davis, and Isaac Davis. He also leaves to cherish his memory his nieces Annette Davis, Catherine Thompson, Sharon Allen, Tanya Rosebrough, Sherry Davis, Jacqueline Shorter, and Ivory Davis; his nephews Carl Abrams and Malcolm Abrams; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, cherished friends, and many colleagues in the funeral industry whom he considered family. Though our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice knowing he has received the eternal reward promised to God's faithful servants. His life of compassion, integrity, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
