Obituary of Crawford Wendell Dennard
Please share a memory of Crawford to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Crawford Wendell Dennard, affectionately known as "Crawf", "Teach", "Coach", and "Mr. D", went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2026. He was born January 26, 1949, in Cambridge, Maryland, to the late Monroe Tennyson Dennard and the late Clara Edna (Demby) Dennard. He was educated in the Dorchester County School system, where he graduated from Mace's Lane High School in 1967 and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences Education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1971. Mr. D was a Baltimore City Schools teacher for 30 years, teaching Social Studies: American Government, before retiring from Edmondson Westside High School. In his retirement, he was a bus driver in York, PA.
Crawford married Sharon Renee Burke in 1972 and had two beautiful daughters, Monique Danielle (Dennard) Wells and Racquel Renee' (Dennard) Allen. After 20 years of marriage, they divorced. And he remarried to Nina (Tucker) Dennard in 1993. Together, they helped raise three children: Tecora, Erika, and Errin (Tucker). They divorced in 2003.
Crawford loved the Lord and was a believer in Jesus Christ. He came to Christ at an early age at Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church of Cambridge, MD, and continued at Epworth United Chapel in Baltimore, MD. His faith and love for the Lord grew when he became a member of Christian Life Church, where he served as an Usher, Men's Choir, and in Men's Ministry. Bro. Dennard loved to sing and make his church family laugh as often as he could.
Coach loved sports and was a huge fan of basketball, football, and baseball. He played racketball at the Marriott Athletic Club and won many championships. He was a lacrosse coach at Edmonson HS and a girls' basketball referee for many years. As often as he could, Mr. D loved to travel and would take long road trips. He was a human roadmap and would often tell you how to get somewhere, even though we had GPS.
Crawford's parents and brother, Schuster Farrow, preceded him in death, and now he leaves to mourn two daughters, Monique Wells and Racquel Allen; sons-in-law, Anthony Wells and Karl Allen; and five grandchildren, Tyrell Dennard-Wells, Quentin Wells, Brendan Wells, Bryce Allen, and Bailiy Allen. One great-grandson: Tysen Dennard. One sister, Kay Dennard Johnson; sister-in-law, Julia Farrow, three nephews, Tyrone Johnson (Aundrea), Langston Farrow, and Duane Farrow, and a host of cousins, "brothers and sisters in Christ" and friends. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4).
All flowers can be sent to the church, Northwest Baptist Church, 300 Westminster Rd. Reisterstown Md 21136.
