Obituary of Garrick Joseph Brown

Garrick Joseph Brown was born on December 28, 1946,
to the late Ada James and Wilbur Brown. He was later
adopted and raised by Rita Brown with her sister, Mary
Brown. On April 17, 2026, he transitioned from this life
into eternity.
Garrick, affectionately known to family and friends
as "Gary," was educated in the Baltimore City Public
School System and graduated from Dunbar High School.
He later began working at Johns Hopkins Hospital,
where he pursued nursing classes and graduated from
Baltimore City Community College. Gary went on to
work at Bryn Mawr Private Preparatory School for
Girls for several years before retiring.
Gary had a deep passion for singing and songwriting.
He and his friends often gathered on street corners to
sing doo-wop and spent time in each other's homes
practicing and recording music. He later became a
member of a gospel group known as the "Bible Boys,"
performing at various churches and events.
On November 11, 1979, Gary married the love of his
life, Lorna Brown. Together, they shared 47 years of
marriage and opened their hearts and home as foster
parents, raising many children. Gary enjoyed watching
and collecting movies, as well as listening to and
collecting music. Above all, he cherished spending time
with his children and grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Ada Brown;
his father, Wilbur Brown; his adoptive parents, Rita
and Mary Brown; his son, Garrett Hamlin; his uncles,
William "Jimmy" James and Joseph "Buddy" James; and
his close friend, Rudy Armstead Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife,
Lorna Brown; He is also survived by his children,
Dashawn Brown, Tonya Brown, Akilah "Renee" Brown,
Syreeta "Brandy"Whelchel, son-in-law, Ricky Whelchel,
Sierra Glover, Brittany Glover, Latoya Richardson, and
Tikisha Jenkins; along with a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren,
his sister, Francine Noel; his brother-in-law,
Frank Noel; his niece, Luciana Noel; his aunt, Annie Boadley;
and a circle o-f special friends, Benard Corprew, Robert Peals,
and Albert Love, And many other loving family members and
friends.
