Obituary of Jahureia "Jay" Clifton Gethers

Jahureia Clifton Gethers was born on July 29,1957, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late John Clifton Gethers and Jannie Mae Singletary Gethers, three sisters growing up in the "Big House". Jay graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1976, as an incredible football and track athlete. Jay also attended Carver High School and graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in 1980 with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration on a track scholarship. Early in his career Jay started work at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, then hired by ServiceMaster, which led him to relocate to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked at Provident Hospital, then University of Maryland Hospital before transitioning to management roles at the National Aquarium Baltimore Harbor, Home Depot, and BJ's Wholesale Club. Jay was baptized on June 10, 1990 and was ordained as a Deacon in 2002. Jay peacefully passed away on the morning of April 23, 2026 and is survived by his wife Mary, son Morris (Trina) Lucas, daughter Jaylin Bingham, granddaughters Mya Lucas and Jenesis Bingham, sisters Jalaine Gethers, Johnetta Gethers, and Jareena (Robert) Bethea, and a host of family, friends, and extended family. Jay will be missed dearly forever by all who knew him.
