Obituary of Rachael Cox
Please share a memory of Rachael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rachael (Jones) Cox (also known as Aunt Rachael and Mother Rachael) was born in Baltimore, MD to Bernice Jones and Raiford P. Mayers on September 2, 1949 and raised by Bernice and John H. Jones. She spent her primary years of schooling at Baltimore City Public Schools in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Dunbar high school in 1967. Following high school, she attended classes at what is now known as Morgan State University. Rachael spent most of her career in the banking and financial fields where she secured long-term jobs at the Federal Reserve Bank, Provident Bank, and Johns Hopkins Hospital Physicians Billing. Rachel was a long time member of First Apostolic Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended regularly, worshipped faithfully, taught Sunday School, and sang on the Echoneers choir. Rachael was married to Clifton J. Cox until 1984. She dedicated her life to nurturing those around her as she was a devoted mother and grandmother who made her family the center of her universe. Whether it was cooking large heartwarming meals or supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities, she was their loving foundation.
Beyond her family, Rachael was renowned for her unwavering support of friends and strangers alike. She was the first to offer a helping hand, a comforting word, a listening ear to anyone in need, or "a piece of her mind " at times. Her generosity was matched only by her intelligence, empathy, and kindness. Friends fondly remember that no one was ever a stranger—only a friend she hadn't met yet. Rachael admired life and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her many nieces and nephews. She was often referred to as "the life of the party"; sharing a funny story or often willing have a very long conversation. She loved to demonstrate her flair for fashion and love of nice cars.
Rachel peacefully passed away on February 22, 2026 at the age of 76. Among those who preceded her in death include her parents John H. Jones, Bernice Jones, and Raiford Mayers, 3 siblings; Ronald Jones, Stephen Jones, and Stanley (Sampson) Jones. She leaves to mourn 2 beloved daughters Nathalie Pender and Valerie Marks; 6 grandchildren Michael Hudgins, Jr. (Brandy), Kiona Hudgins, Shardaye Pender, Nathaniel Pender, Ronald Marks, and Quentin Pender; 13 great grandchildren; 4 sisters Barbara Scott, Brenda Jones, Beverly Jones, and Lavern Johnson; 1 goddaughter Jessica Coleman; and a host of other family and friends.
