Obituary of Pauline James

Please share a memory of Pauline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On January 28, 2026, Pauline May (Beckford) James, a woman of immense warmth and infectious joy, passed away peacefully in her home. Born on May 26, 1962, in Birmingham, England, Pauline was the cherished daughter of the late Jeremiah and Amocetia Beckford. In 1969, at the age of seven, Pauline moved with her family to Reading Pennsylvania, beginning a new chapter in the United States that would be defined by her dedication to others, her vibrant spirit, and her pursuit of excellence. During her early years in Reading, Pauline attended Reading Junior Academy (RJA) for her early education. Her summers were filled with visiting family (New York) and friends around the neighborhood, and spending time at Laurel Lake Camp in western Pennsylvania. It was at camp that she obtained the nickname "Colgate" from the new friends she met. Some of these friendships have lasted through her adult life. Making friends was a gift that Pauline shared with everyone she came in contact with. Pauline's professional life was a testament to her versatile talents and her heart for service. She graduated from Reading High School and began her career at Olan Mills Studio where she found a love of capturing moments in life through photography. She later turned her focus to helping others as a Home Health Aide, where her natural empathy provided comfort to many. As lifelong learner, Pauline was committed to her personal and professional growth, culminating in her graduation from Alvernia College with a Master's Degree in Business Administration. This academic achievement paved the way for a successful and distinguished career with the Department of Defense, where she served as a Contract Specialist until her retirement. To those who knew her, Pauline was synonymous with light. She possessed a beautiful smile that never seemed to fade and an upbeat personality that could lift anyone's spirits. She found peace in nature, joy in a good puzzle, and excitement in the roar of a football game. Whether she was traveling to a new destination, cooking a favorite meal, or lost in the rhythm of her favorite music, Pauline lived life fully. Her greatest love, however, was her family. Pauline was the "heart" of her circle — a devoted sister, a loving aunt, and a loyal friend. She is survived by her siblings: Hugh Beckford (Sherma), Camalita Beckford, and Blossom Brackman; her nephews Kalei and Taylor Beckford; her favorite niece Eletha Beckford Smith (Anthony); her grand-nephews Dorion and Parrish and her grand-niece Enadia. Her legacy continues to grow through her beloved cousins, as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, great-grand nieces, and friends who will miss her laughter dearly. Pauline's journey has come full circle as she joins her beloved parents, but the memory of her smile and her legacy of perseverance will remain a permanent fixture in the hearts of all who loved her. On Saturday, February 28, 2026, a homegoing celebration for Mrs. Pauline James will be held at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road Randallstown, MD 21133 where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with services to follow.
