I met Ms. Dixie in the 90's when I would go home to Baltimore with Barbara. She'd always welcome me with open arms and and a warm smile. I remember her greeting me saying, "Hey Krista" even though my name is Christy. I wouldn't dare correct her; I would just chuckle to myself. Thanks for the funny memories, rest well.

Mommy,
I’m so thankful that God answered my prayer and brought you home peacefully. Throughout your life’s journey, you showed me every single day what it means to be resilient, steadfast, and genuinely kind. I always admired that your moral compass pointed true north. No matter what you encountered in life, you tried to do what was right and fair—even when it wasn’t easy.
I will miss your 3 a.m. phone calls about nothing at all. I will miss the way your eyes lit up at the thought of a new creative project. I will miss our weekend shopping sprees that always ended at a restaurant of your choosing. But most of all, I will miss the net of security I felt simply knowing you were close—knowing that if I ever needed you, you were there.
You set the bar so high for us growing up, and it meant more than I can say to hear you tell us how proud you were of the women we’ve become. I will carry those words with me always. I will carry you with me always.
I promise to share pieces of you with your grandchildren—your wisdom, your strength, your sense of right and wrong—so they will know how to navigate life and continue the legacy you created for our family.
