Obituary of Dorethea Dolores Meadows
Please share a memory of Dorethea to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorethea Dolores Meadows was born January 26,1949 to the union of Rita King and Ernest Miles Sr at The University Of Maryland in Baltimore City. She was called "Tiny" by her brother Leon after which she began being called "Tina" by all her family and friends.
Tina grew up in Baltimore City, as the only girl of four brothers( Ernest, Gerald, Leon, Vernon) and attended Dunbar High School. After High School, May 10, 1966 she gave birth to a precious baby boy Thomas William Miles at Lutheran Hospital in Baltimore City. She shared four cherished years with Thomas until his sudden death on June 15, 1970 which was extremely devastating for her and the family.
Tina began her pursuit of a career at Granada Nursing Home as a Nutritionist 1975-1978, where she met George William Meadows Jr. She was employment at the Maryland Cup Corporation from 1978-1982 before getting united in marriage to her forever love, George William Meadows Jr. They were married August 28, 1982 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore City, becoming a Stepmother to three beautiful children (Rhonda, Duane and Angela). Once their children left home, Tina with the agreement and support of George, decided to open their home to children in need through the Martin Pollak Project, Inc serving Foster Children, Families & Resources fostering their first two girls (Adrian-13, Christina -12)in 1982.
Tina was always honest with any child she cared for didn't add any "Sugar" to the truth, while still being loving and nurturing the" Tina Way". She also became an in home Child Care Provider for infants and toddler to close friends and family members. She continued to provide care as a Foster Parent through the years and ultimately an Adopted parent in 2007 (Winifred Jones-Meadows), given full legal guardianship in 2010 (Ryleigh Singleton) to her last days. Tina was a believer in Christ and shared that with the children in her care while enjoying traveling with the Zion Hill Gospel Singers and The Southern Gospel Singers. She enjoyed going to various restaurants with her family, outings with the church, crabs and an ice cold Pepsi.
Tina was a very strong minded woman and determined to manage her household her way and she took great pride in doing so, which is why her sudden passing has left us all with an enormous void in our hearts and lives. To know Tina was to hear her screaming contagious laugh when she saw a loved one or heard a funny joke. Her laugh will be missed and her weekly Saturday visits to multiple stores on the hunt for the best price to keep her home fully stocked and her family well fed.
Tina was preceded in death by: her son (Thomas William Miles), mother (Rita Braxton),brothers ( Leon Miles, Gerald Miles and Vernon Miles), Sister-In-Law ( Lanna Miles), Stepdaughter ( Rhonda Meadows), Mother In-Law(Mary E. Meadows), daughter ( Adrian Edwards), Stepfather (Alvin Braxton),and Grandson ( Christopher Edwards).
She leaves to cherish her memory: Husband (George W. Meadows Jr.), Brother (Ernest Miles Jr.) Stepchildren ( Duane Meadows, Angela Tomlin), Daughters ( Ryleigh Singleton, Winifred Jones-Meadows, Christina Blue-Williams), 22 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
