Just seeing on this 14th day of January, news of AC's passing. We grew up through Butler Avenue-Clinton High together. One of the few who dared call me "Kitten" (my nick name). He was destined for greatness and although we lost contact through the years, the extraordinary life he lived doesn't surprise me. Rest well classmate!

I have fond memories of ‘AC’ when we were students at Morgan and serving as peer counselors. My fondest memory is when he ‘discovered’ my friend and fellow peer counselor the then Diane McCord! Remembering that spark in his eye when he would see Diane and watching their relationship develop into a full blown romance brings a smile to my face. The rest is history. Peace be with you all, always as you bask in your countless and wonderful memories of AC.
Love,
Melanie Martin

I grew up and went to high school with AC. We even played football together for a couple of years. AC was a nice, friendly athletic and intelligent young man. He cared about others and got along with everyone. I saw him this past year at our high school football game but didn't get a chance to speak to him because of the large crowd. I regret that now because that was the first time that I had seen him in many years with everyone going their separate ways. I will always remember him as a dear friend❗️

Sincere, heartfelt Condolences to the family of my grammar school and high school classmate, A.C. McPhail.
We all grew up in the same Clinton, NC neighborhood and attended segregated "Butler Avenue School" from 1st to 8th grade where our strong bond and family values were further instilled combined with church values - attending Union Grove Disciple Church.
Pastor McLaurin, church officers and membership and our great elementary school teaching faculty, and parents who were not afraid to put the pedal to the metal- Super role models who made up in realness what they lacked in money. A place I like to call Normal.
Us classmates, 1st to 8th grade, unknowingly and without effort, forged what can only be called close knit sort of friend/family relationships that endures through all the past decades to this day. No matter what time elapses, we meet and can always pick up laffing and remembering the good times, the good old days. And A.C. will not ever lose his place in those memories.
I will remember A.C. as always a standout/stand up friend -- a man of the hour. A man among men. AC- yes, the man, the myth, and the legend will live in our hearts and we can uphold his gift of gab, his gift of giving, his gift of his presence.
Hold on family. Some sweet day til we meet again.
