Obituary of Denzel James De'Shields
DENZEL "JAMES" DESHIELDS
Denzel "James" Deshields, affectionately known as "DJ" and "Denzy" by family and friends, was born on May 23, 1993, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Mamie Louise Abraham and James Andrew Dashields. He departed this life suddenly on December 5, 2025.
DJ attended Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore, where he received his high school diploma in June 2012. After graduation, he attended BCCC for a short period of time studying forensic science and later earning a certification in Phlebotomy. Shortly afterward, DJ began working at Stevenson University in the Food Service Department, where he made many friends. He later worked for a short time at Mercy Medical Center before joining the staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Loading Dock Attendant. He also worked at the Marriott as a Valet Parking Attendant.
Helping others was DJ's passion. He enjoyed concerts, dancing, and taking trips. He always had a joke ready and kept people laughing. He had an old soul and loved listening to Music. DJ also enjoyed cooking—though he preferred baking even more—and he especially loved Patti Pies.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Mamie Abraham; his sister, Monique Dashields; his nephew, Jamiyia Johnson; his maternal grandmother, Louise Abraham; and his cousin, Belinda Brockington and Godmother Brenda Currie.
DJ leaves to cherish his memory: his father, James Dashields; his stepmother, Kathy Dashields; and his siblings Yolanda Mills, Stacie Leggins,Dana Dashields. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews . Denzel shared a special motherly bond with his aunt Beatrice Abraham and a special brotherly bond with his nephew De'Andre Smith and a close relationship with his uncle Harrell Abraham , whom he loved dearly. He also cherished and had a special bond with his cousin Rockiea Jones.
DJ held two friends especially close to his heart, Cierra Scott and Greg Hall, and he adored his godson, Greyson. He leaves behind a host of other loving family members and friends who will forever remember his laughter, kindness, and generous spirit.
