Obituary of Augusto Mercado Uy

Augusto Mercado Uy passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born on August 1, 1932, in Binondo, Manila, Philippines, to Fabio Uy and Trinidad Mercado, growing up with 10 sisters and 1 brother. In 1955, Augusto began his military service by joining the U.S. Navy at Sangley Point. He married Barbara L. Wilson in 1960 in Washington, D.C. While stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the couple had a son, and two more sons born in Baltimore, Maryland. He became a naturalized citizen in1964. During his service, he completed a tour in Vietnam and was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal (With Combat V). A large part of Augusto's 20-year military career was served at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland in their Research Department. He also played softball for the hospital team. He retired in 1975 as a Chief Hospital Medical Corpsman. He was later employed and retired as a medical technician by The American Red Cross in Baltimore, Maryland, continuing as a volunteer driver in their blood donor program for several more years. Augusto is survived by his wife, Barbara; his three sons, August M., Timothy A. (Sharon), and Jonathan D. Uy; four grandchildren: Bryttany Hyde (Cameron), Melissa Jefferson (Patrick), Max Ricketts-Uy (Rachel), and Marinna Ricketts-Uy (Nick); and six great-grandchildren: Killian and AthenaRose Hyde; Logan and Reagan Jefferson; and Maquel and Carmela Ricketts-Uy. Private viewing (for family only) to be conducted by Vaughn-Greene Funeral Services in Randallstown, Maryland followed by a Military Honors Ceremony (open to friends) at Garrison Forest Veterans' Cemetery Chapel, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd. in Owings Mills, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Donor Care Center, PO Box 758541, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8541.
