In Loving Memory of Frank Douglas "Doug" Tapp
January 8, 1941 – November 2, 2025
Frank Douglas Tapp, affectionately known as "Doug" or "Douglas," passed away peacefully on
November 2, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on January 8, 1941, in South Boston, Virginia, to the
late Frank and Ida Sue (Lawson) Tapp. Doug made Baltimore, Maryland his home for most of
his life, where he built lasting roots and friendships.
Doug began his career with Baltimore Mass Transit in his early twenties and dedicated more
than 30 years of service before retiring at age 62. He took great pride in his work. He enjoyed
working on buses and valued the camaraderie he shared with his coworkers, many of whom
became lifelong friends, including his dear friend Oscar Ferguson.
He had a love for music, especially the soulful sounds of Smokey Robinson and the Temptations.
Doug also loved to shop, whether it was clothes, shoes, or the latest home gadgets, he was
always on the lookout for something new. In his later years, he found joy traveling with his
children, sharing laughter, and creating memories that will last forever. His favorite destinations
were the Dominican Republic and Nassau, Bahamas, where he especially enjoyed the sunshine,
culture, and easygoing spirit of island life, places he often spoke of fondly and always said he
wanted to go back to.
Doug was a man who spoke his mind, always honest, sometimes blunt, but never unkind. His
words were few, but they carried meaning, warmth, and truth. Doug was known for his humility,
generosity, and gentle spirit. He loved his family deeply and, though he preferred a quiet life in
his later years, his love for them never wavered.
He shared a special bond with his niece, Letha Brooks, who lived with him for many years and
continued to look after him even after moving on her own. He adored his sister, Bernice Brooks,
and the two shared daily phone calls for many years, a cherished routine that reflected their deep
sibling bond.
Doug also leaves behind his devoted neighbor and friend, Katherine "Kathy" Barks, who was a
constant source of care and support in his later years. Her kindness, attention, and willingness to
help allowed him to remain comfortable and cared for, and his family will always be grateful for
her love and dedication.
He is survived by his two children, Keith Tapp and Danielle Tapp-Hynson (Dameon); his sister,
Bernice Brooks; four grandchildren, Keith White, Destiny Hynson, Devon Hynson, and Daniel
Hynson; and two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Kross. He also leaves behind five nieces: Letha
Brooks, Muril Brooks, Sherry Evans, Tammy Gholston (Marvin), and Trina Tyson along with a
host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Frank and Ida Sue (Lawson) Tapp, and his nephew, Howard "Tony" Brooks.
Doug believed in giving back and quietly supported many causes close to his heart, particularly
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his
back to help someone in need, embodying the true meaning of compassion.
In keeping with Doug's wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Those who
wish to honor his memory are encouraged to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,
a cause he held close to his heart. Doug believed in helping others whenever he could, and this is
a fitting way to continue his legacy of kindness and generosity.
He will be cremated privately
He was a simple man with a generous heart, one whose love and laughter will live on through the
family and friends he so dearly cherished.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the
house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23:
