Obituary of Mark Anthony Taylor
Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On March 15, 1962, in Northumberland County, Virginia, the world welcomed Mark Anthony Taylor, a son to the late Barbara Jean Lampkin and the late Rolland Odell Taylor. From the very beginning, Mark carried with him a spirit that was equal parts strength, humor, and determination—a combination that would shape the man so many came to know and love as Pops.
Mark's early years were marked by lessons in hard work and personal responsibility. He would go on to answer a higher calling when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his time in service, he was deployed to Germany. Mark gained not only the discipline and skills of a serviceman but also a deeper appreciation for loyalty and honor; these values he carried into every chapter of his life.
Mark had a way of leaving an impression wherever he went. His humor was quick, often catching you off guard and leaving you in laughter before you realized the joke had landed. But just as quickly, he could get down to the heart of a matter with his no-nonsense attitude. He didn't sugarcoat things, and honesty was a kind of love—because when Mark told you something, you knew it was the truth, spoken from the heart, even if he cursed while saying it
A lifelong fan of his hometown teams, Mark was often found with a Ravens cap pulled low over his brow or an Orioles jersey on his back. Whether it was football season or baseball season, Pops stayed loyal through every win and every loss, reminding everyone that true fans stick with their team no matter what.
Of all his roles in life, Mark's favorite was being a father and grandfather. His pride in his daughter, Chantel Taylor (Johnson), was unmatched—she was his heart, his joy, and his greatest accomplishment (until those Grandchildren came). His love only grew when he became a grandfather to his grandchildren, Reece, Cali Raye, and Caylee Raye, along with his bonus grandson, Nicholas Jr. He loved seeing their faces light up, hearing their laughter, and being a part of their lives as they grew.
Mark's presence in the lives of those he loved was constant and steady. He was a man who showed up, who listened, and who always found a way to make you laugh, even in the challenging moments. He believed in living authentically, speaking honestly, and loving deeply.
On August 5, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, Mark completed his earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter, Chantel (Nick Sr.), his grandchildren, Nick Jr., Reece, Cali Raye, and Caylee Raye ("CC"), his brother, Timmy, and a long host of loving friends and extended family who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Though his chair may now be empty at family gatherings, his stories, his humor, and his spirit will fill the room forever. Pops was one of a kind, and his absence will be felt deeply, but his life will be celebrated with every memory shared and every laugh sparked in his honor.
