Obituary of Harriet Priscilla Lucas
Please share a memory of Harriet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harriet Priscilla Lucas, daughter of the late Rayfield Barrett Sr. and Theresa Davis, was born on September 10, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by both parents and Andrew Brown, her loving and caring bonus father.
Harriet attended Baltimore City Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School and married the late John Henry Lucas, Jr. of Lamar, SC on April 4, 1952. Out of this union, eight children
were raised with love and care.
Harriet received Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young child. She rededicated her life to the Lord after the death of her youngest son, Mark. She was baptized and became a member of New Frontiers of
Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of her cousin, the late Eugene T. Grove, Sr. She faithfully served as a Deaconess, a helper on the VBS staff and a member of the women's ministry. Her personal ministries were being a strong prayer warrior and sending cards to all she loved throughout the year.
Harriet was employed by Stewart's Department store for many years as a salesclerk. In later years, she worked for the Department of Aging as an unemployment clerk and for The Experience Corps of
Baltimore, assisting teachers in the classroom with elementary school students.
Harriet was sincerely loved and respected by her family, friends, neighbors at Woodberry Woods Apartments, as well as her church family, whom she loved dearly. She loved to call family, friends, and her church family to pray with and for them. Praying for her family was her daily mission and her heart's desire was to see them all on heaven's shores one day. Harriet was always "on mission" giving out Daily
Breads and spreading the love of Christ wherever she went. She loved to cut out coupons to share and put verses in frames to share with others.
In 2020, at the beginning of COVID, Harriet moved in with David and Melody. Together with Michelle and Darlene, they were given the joy and the privilege of caring for a mother who had always cared so tenderly for her own. Harriet loved listening day and night to hymns on the Jimmy Swaggart network. She never left the house without having everything in place she was called a diva by many
with her signature blue nail polish and her beautiful gray hair.
Harriet leaves to continually celebrate her life, Michael, Michelle, William (Beverly), Darryl, Melody
(David), Darlene (Steven), Dwain (Yvonne), thirteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of extended family members, friends, and
faithful prayer warriors. Harriet was preceded in death by John Henry Lucas Jr. (husband), Rayfield Barrett, Jr. (brother) Mark Lucas (son), Jeffery Brooks (grandson), and Ashley Horton-Cooper
(granddaughter).
