Charles "Smokey" Ransom Johnson Jr.
December 25, 1949 – August 2, 2025
Charles "Smokey" Ransom Johnson Jr., 75, of Baltimore City, passed away peacefully on
Saturday, August 2, 2025.
Born on Christmas Day, 1949, in Baltimore to the late Charles Ransom Johnson Sr. and Florine
Fuller, Smokey was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He
graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1967, and
remained proud of his school and community throughout his life.
Smokey was a man who worked hard and loved deeply. Even after working the night shift, he
found joy in taking his children and grandchildren to school, cherishing those daily moments
together. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and he took pride in providing for them
through his hard work and determination. He also had a special place in his heart for his loyal
dog, Chance, whose companionship brought him much joy.
He is survived by his life partner, Kim Henderson; his children, Thomas Scott, Kim Scott, Shena
Wright, and Charles T. Johnson; his cherished grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews
who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his siblings, Glenwood Johnson, Sylvia JohnsonHargrove, Tyrone Johnson, Linda Johnson, Raymond Hood, and Sadie Leach.
Smokey had a zest for life and a personality that drew people in. He loved to take long drives,
finding peace and joy in the open road. Known for his quick wit and humor, he never missed an
opportunity to make someone smile. A passionate sports fan, he proudly cheered for his
hometown teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, through every season.
Above all, Smokey valued family and the bonds that held them together. His love, laughter, and
generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us during this difficult
time. Your prayers, kind words, and presence have been a source of comfort and strength.
