Obituary of Celeste Alberta Hillery

Please share a memory of Celeste to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Celeste Alberta Hillery, 86, of Baltimore, Maryland, peacefully departed this life on Monday, August 4, 2025, in her home, surrounded by love. Celeste was born on October 11, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Annie Lee West and William West. She was raised as an only child and received her education in the Baltimore City School System. In 1956, Celeste married J.C. Jordan, and from that union they were blessed with five children: Yvonne, Stephainey, Mark, Bruce, and Margo. Following that union, she welcomed her son, Willie Graves Jr. into the world. On April 21, 1983, Celeste married the late Walter Hillery in Baltimore, Maryland. Celeste spent over 25 years as a dedicated seamstress at London Fog, where her skill and attention to detail were admired by all who worked alongside her. Her love for sewing extended beyond her career, as she often created beautiful pieces for herself and her loved ones. After retiring from London Fog, she dedicated her time to providing daycare services for children in her local community. She was a devoted and faithful member of Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church, where she worshipped for many years. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which she not only recited but lived—trusting "Almighty God" as her Shepherd in every season of her life. Known affectionately as "Mama," "Mother," "Granny," "Grandma," and "Ms. Celeste," she will be remembered for her strength, perseverance, wit, cooking, love for clothes, and joy in attending social affairs. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Her wisdom, sense of humor, and gift for storytelling left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her children: Yvonne Jordan, Stephainey Richmond (James Jr.), Bruce Jordan (Darlene), Margo Wells (Kevin), and Willie Graves Jr.; six grandchildren: Katina Smith, Shawnte Jordan, Danielle Graves, James Richmond III, Whitney Graves, and Darrell Blackwell Jr.; three great-grandchildren: Kinsley Jordan, Wynter Blackwell, and Giovanni Blackwell; her goddaughter, Melanie Payne; two special loved ones, Michael Beckett and Deirdre Byrd, and a host of in-laws, relatives, neighbors who became family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Hillery; her mother, Annie Lee West; her father, William West; and her son, Mark Jordan. Celeste will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is now resting in the eternal presence of Almighty God.
