Obituary of Nedra Maureen Johnson

Please share a memory of Nedra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nedra Maureen Johnson was born on January 26, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York, to Jimmy and Eva Johnson. While she was still very young, the family relocated to Englewood, New Jersey, where they became members of Community Baptist Church under the leadership of then- Pastor Rev. Clarence E. Kenner, later succeeded by Rev. Dr. Lester W. Taylor. Nedra accepted Christ at an early age and was deeply involved in church life. She was one of the founding members of the Community Baptist Church Youth Ministry and loved singing in the church choirs. Her passion for music extended beyond the church as a member of the Garden State Chorale Chapter, Inc., a division of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc. Her educational journey began in the Englewood Public School System. She graduated from Bergen County Technical High School in Hackensack, New Jersey, where she studied horticulture and childcare. She had a special talent for floral design and even turned her passion into a side business. Nedra continued her education at Bethune- Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, majoring in Hospitality Management. Following college, Nedra began her professional career in early childhood care before transitioning into customer service, a field in which she worked for over 25 years. Her kind nature, warmth, and ability to connect with people made her a natural in that role. Nedra was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Eva Johnson; her maternal grandparents, Fannie and Willie L. Williams; paternal grandparents, Bertha and Zolia Johnson, Sr.; stepbrother, Melvin Wright; and aunts and uncles: Francine Lemon, Evelyn Webb, Betty Williams, Zolia Johnson, Jr., and Willie J. Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted father, Jimmy L. Johnson (Earthly); loving sister, Monica Johnson-Fennell (Larrell); adopted sister, Concetta Alexander (Darren); stepbrother, Jasper Johnson; aunts, Maxine Williams, Erma Weldon, and Willie Mae Williams, uncles, Timothy Johnson (Gail), Patrick Johnson (Jervine), and Benjamin Lemon; godmother, Delores Bryant; goddaughter, Shamariah Jackson; godson, Javion Hanible; godsister, Michelle Santos; as well as a host of cousins, adopted nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Nedra had an infectious personality—sweet, witty, and just the right amount of sass. She loved staying connected with her family and made a point to reach out often. A loyal Steelers fan—win or lose—she proudly went toe to toe with anyone who went against her team. She also enjoyed attending Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she made many cherished friendships over the years. To know Nedra was to love her. Her radiant smile, generous spirit, and big heart will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
