Obituary of Marlene Priscillia Patterson
Please share a memory of Marlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marlene Priscilla was the second oldest of seven children born to the late Mildred and Percy Lane, Sr. in 1944 East Baltimore.
Marlene knew the Lord from an early age. She received all of her sacraments including baptism, confirmation and communion at Historic St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She even attended elementary school at St. Francis Xavier Academy where she is remembered to have greatly enjoyed performing in the annual Winter Wonderland Play. During her matriculation at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, she was an avid softball player and excelled in her Home Economics classes as an accomplished seamstress who proudly constructed several fashionable garments.
Marlene had a well-known talent for cooking, frying fish and baking goods. She was renowned for her slow simmered barbeque pig feet smothered in green peppers and onions. Nor could anyone in the family outdo her homemade River Rice Pudding recipe or Walnut Raisin Christmas Cookie recipe which has been handed down as a favored family recipe. As a testament to her culinary prowess, Marlene worked for years with Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Dietary and Nutritional Food Service Operator.
In addition to cooking for loved ones and attending regular card parties, cook outs and family gatherings, Marlene enjoyed "playing the numbers" and taking regular bus trips to Atlantic City with lifelong girlfriends and relatives.
In the 1960's, Marlene fell in love and married her soldier boy, Richard E. Patterson, Sr. From this union were born two children, Lavera Patterson and Richard Patterson, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her children Lavera McFadden, Richard E. Patterson Jr., one great grandchild Deonta Patterson, three sisters and two brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory grandchildren Erica Patterson, Delvera Macklin, Kimberly Carrington (Anthony), Richard Patterson (Sidney), Dejuan Patterson (Oprah), Donte Patterson (Keyonna), FaithAnn Patterson, Rashaun Patterson, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, one sister Hazel A. Thomas, one son\-in-law Maurice McFadden, and a host of other relatives and friends.
