Obituary of Samuel Green
Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
September 15, 1934 – June 16, 2025
Samuel Green was born on September 15, 1934, in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late Effie and William Green. He peacefully transitioned on June 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his beloved wife, Juanita Green, and their seven children.
The youngest of four siblings, Samuel, around the age of six, moved to Baltimore with his mother and siblings after his father, William, had relocated earlier to secure housing for the family. He graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and began his career working at S&S Food Market on Gay Street, later joining Comfort Springs Manufacturers. He later joined his father-in-law, the late Marion McCorkle at Indiana Grain Farm Bureau. He retired in May 1999 after many dedicated years of service there.
In 1949, Samuel met the love of his life, Juanita McCorkle. The two were married on May 10, 1953. From their union, they lovingly raised seven children.
Sam had a love for reading—especially the Bible—and always had a good joke or a laugh ready to share. He enjoyed listening to music by Patti LaBelle, Luther Vandross, and various gospel artists. His generous heart led him to regularly support five different charities each month.
Throughout his life, Sam enjoyed traveling. He took road trips to Washington, D.C. for family gatherings and visited places such as Montana, Colorado, Mississippi, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Florida, New York, South Carolina and North Carolina. He also loved going to the movies.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Effie and William Green; his sisters, Viva Hemphill and Nancy Moore; and his brother, William Green, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 72 years, Juanita Green; his children: Derrick (Regina), Sandra "Sherry", Jeffrey (Theresa), Rodney, Ron (Cassandra), Carolyn, and Kevin (Lauren).
Grandchildren:
Tyra (Bryan), Andre (Lisa), Racquel, Terrell, Tiffany, Joshua, Jerome, Justin, Symone (Jerrell), Darnell, Vincent (Laura), Martin (Brenna), Gabriel, Rodney, Duane "Poppy", and Raven
Great Grandchildren:
Bryce, Jaden, Mya, Dariah, Kingston, Bella, Micah, Sophia, Liam, Breeze, Eden, Saint, Amber, Marcus, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maryland Food Bank in his name.
