Frank McMiller, Sr. was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 3, 1940. Frank was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System of Charlotte. He graduated from Second Ward High School in 1958 and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Throughout his secondary and collegiate years, Frank loved to play basketball. He was the number #2 player in Charlotte during high school and as a senior, he was selected as a first team member of the All-City Team. Frank was the only member of the varsity basketball team to graduate with honors, a testament to both his scholastic achievements and athleticism. Frank earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1963 from Livingstone College, where he also became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Frank served in the United States Army for two years active duty (1963-1965) and he was honorably discharged in 1969, following reserve duty. Frank began a job as an elementary school teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools. In 1975, he continued his education by obtaining a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from Morgan State University. Frank taught reading but primarily was the math resource teacher. His students respected him. He did not play with them. They even had a nickname for him - "Killer Diller Mr. McMiller!" After 32 years, Frank retired from the public school system. Frank also enjoyed bowling, tennis, playing solitaire, watching old Western movies, and cooking. Frank really loved and cared about his children, his only living baby sister "Blyn", spending quality time conversing, and of course, educating! During retirement, he enjoyed Tuesday lunches with fellow members of the Baltimore Old Timers - friends he had met through Sportsman's Lounge basketball league and walking with friends in the morning. He was a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church for 41 years. He had three best friends he loved dearly Mr. George Lee Miller (deceased), Mr. Theodore Russell and Mr. Melvin Beckles (deceased).
