Obituary of Richard Woodard

Richard Louis Woodard, age 75, of Baltimore, transitioned on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Mr. Woodard was born February 19, 1943 in Washington, DC.

Richard Louis Woodard was born to the proud parents, Arthur Lee and Emma Lou Woodard on February 19, 1943 in Washington, DC. At an early age the family moved to New York City where he completed his formal education, graduating from the Eastern District High School in Brooklyn, NY. In 1964 he joined the Navy and served a four year tour of duty.

After military life he returned to Washington, DC to further his education. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) (formerly Federal City College). He then received a Master of Science from George Washington University, followed by a Master of Arts from UDC. He went on to work for the Department of the Army, with assignments in Germany, Kuwait and Aberdeen, MD. He retired in 2004 as an Education Services Specialist. He resided in Baltimore, MD until the time of his death on February 24, 2018.

Affiliations: Volunteer at the Veterans Affairs. A member of American Legion; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. (Delta Lambda Chapter); The Gallants of Baltimore and The Brothas Who Read (a local book club that Richard co-founded).

Preceding him in death was his mother Emma Lou Woodard, a virtous woman (Proverbs 12:14) whom he loved and cherished and his beloved brother James Lee Woodard.

He leaves, not to grieve, but to remember him with thankful hearts, that God allowed him to be part of OUR LIVES: his father Arthur Lee Woodard (93 y/o), of Columbia, Virginia; sister (Kathilyn) Kat Williams of Queensbury, NY; Kim Woodard-Koonce (Daryl) of Charlotte, NC; Nephews/nieces: Thomas Williams, of Troy, NY; Trevor (Julie) Williams, of Radnor, PA; Nicole Williams of Springfield, PA; Brittany Woodard of New Jersey; Edward Woodard and Ayana Woodard of Charlotte, NC. And a host of loving relatives and friends.

On Friday, March 16, 2018, services for Mr. Woodard will be held at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Lierty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00AM with services to follow.

The interment will take place at Crownsville Veteran Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032, immediately following services.
