Bernice Love Berry


Bernice Love Berry, "Moma" as she was fondly called, was born on August 30, 1922 to the late Dora Sykes. She was born in Robeson County, North Carolina and departed this life on October 5, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland.

When talking about a strong individual, Bernice was one of the strongest and most powerful women in both her family and social structures. She was the matriarch of the family, a homemaker and was dedicated to her family. She loved cooking big meals; having family dinners; making quilts; playing the piano; fishing; listening to Gospel music; and reading her Bible daily. She loved the Lord and served him throughout her entire life.

Bernice married the late James Carlyle Berry and was a loving and faithful wife until his death. From Bernice and James' union, thirteen children were born, five of whom preceded her in death: the late Doris Medlin; James Berry; Barbara Sykes; Kenneth Berry; and Carolyn Berry; and leaves eight children to mourn her passing: Ronald Berry; Eunice Berry; Doretha Martin; Bernice Berry; Jeanette Histon; Cynthia Butler; Michael Berry; and Sylvia Berry. She also leaves to mourn three sons-in-laws: Gary Martin, Steven Histon and Ricky Butler; two daughters-in-laws: Cheryl Berry and Kim Berry; a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; great great great grandchildren and other family and friends.
